Democracy failed

I apology for using this forum for an essay not about art.

But the times we live in are on verge of massive change.

I have always supported the Democratic way of life. I was raised to trust it. But the democracy I grew up under has failed me. And I need to know why. How can a system of government most Americans have believed in and trusted now seems to have failed. 

Revisiting my ideals I was never a strong believer in the electoral college. It seemed to me voting should not be determined by any one state having more influence than any other. And in retrospect this has had a deleterious effect on our elections.

I strongly believe in the people having the power to vote and majority rule rule. Here again, I was wrong. Why?

Government systems and how they work plus civics was never taught in school. I, like , most Americans trust the system we were born into. We didn't question it. Until now. 

We were told about our founding father and the system they devised as the best of any other system. But this too, proves to be incorrect.

Make no mistake, I love this country and would die for it if I had to. 

But what if the system we all believe in and trusted is flawed. Actually destined to fail. The system we have been selling to the world. Democracy as we know it today.

I am going to ask those who read this newsletter to do something.

I don't profess to have the knowledge or expertise to speak on this subject. I am not an expert nor well versed on the machinations of government and it's intricate workings. 

There is a video on this exact subject that I watched twice just to assure myself that what I listened to was logical and made sense and not some misleading information or propaganda.

It is on YouTube. I encourage you to watch. You can stop here and not bother. 
Nor will watching change much of what is happening in our country today. AND it is not about any one person currently living or dead. It is not about current politics.

It is an analysis of Democracy. How it works compared to other systems of government. And it has change my whole outlook

on majority rule. Which I thought was a better way to choose our leaders. It offers a possible solution that seems more just and amicable to everyone. And favors no one person or group. It is not perfect. Nothing in life is. And it has element of what we have now. But things that will seem controversial.

So without saying anything further, watch if only to understand and for no other reason. And think. Make your own decisions. Think hard on how you want to live. And how our children will live.
